Sydney Eco House
When sustainability is central to a home’s design, every element needs to work together — from energy efficiency and water conservation to comfort and aesthetics. This Sydney residence takes inspiration from German “passive house” principles, incorporating a large solar array, EVR cooling with a heat exchanger-cooler, and rainwater harvesting for four toilets, the laundry and garden.

When sustainability is central to a home’s design, every element needs to work together — from energy efficiency and water conservation to comfort and aesthetics.
This Sydney residence takes inspiration from Germany’s “Passive House” principles, where thermal comfort is achieved through intelligent design rather than excessive energy consumption. The home incorporates a large solar array, an energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system with heat exchange technology, and rainwater harvesting for four toilets, the laundry and garden.
The challenge
With a strong focus on both sustainability and comfort, the rainwater harvesting system needed to deliver reliable performance without compromising the home’s carefully considered design.
A conventional rainwater pump could introduce unwanted noise and visual clutter, making it less suited to a high-end residential environment where aesthetics and acoustic comfort were important considerations.
The SFA solution
The Rain2Home® provided an ideal solution. Designed as an in-tank submersible rainwater pump, it sits discreetly within the rainwater tank, keeping the system out of sight while producing significantly less noise than a typical external rainwater pump.
This allowed the homeowners to make effective use of harvested rainwater throughout the property without compromising the clean aesthetic or quiet environment of the home.
“SFA’s Rain2Home system was the ideal solution for our home as it produces far less noise compared to a typical rainwater pump. It was also important to us to minimise visual clutter and maintain the aesthetics of the home, and as a submersible pump, it remains out of sight, which suited our needs perfectly.”
Geoff, Homeowner and Designer
By combining discreet installation with reliable performance, Rain2Home® supports the broader sustainable design objectives of the project — demonstrating that practical water-saving solutions can be seamlessly integrated into contemporary residential architecture.
The result
Rain2Home® provided a discreet, low-noise rainwater harvesting solution that complemented the home’s sustainability-focused design without compromising aesthetics or comfort.
By integrating the pump within the rainwater tank, the system remains virtually out of sight while efficiently supplying harvested rainwater to four toilets, the laundry and garden. The result is a practical water-saving solution that supports the home’s broader environmental goals while fitting seamlessly into its contemporary design.
