Australia Post Distribution Centre, Brisbane Airport
Delivering essential infrastructure within a high-compliance logistics environment required a smart and adaptable pumping solution.
The Challenge
During the construction of the new Australia Post Distribution Centre at Brisbane Airport, Workplace Health & Safety regulations required that cool drinking water be readily accessible for all workers across the facility.
Five water coolers were strategically positioned throughout the distribution centre to meet these requirements. However, their locations presented a significant challenge — there were no accessible drainage points nearby.
In addition to this, the installation needed to comply with AS/NZS 3500.2, Brisbane Airport regulations, and the builder’s strict requirements for a non-intrusive solution, meaning no concrete cutting or major structural modifications could be undertaken.
A reliable and compliant pumping solution was essential to overcome these constraints.
The Solution
SFA’s Sanicom 2 was selected to meet the project’s demanding requirements.
Recommended by QLD Business Development Manager Nick Moore, the Sanicom 2 provided the power and performance needed to pump wastewater from the water coolers over a vertical lift of 9 to 10 metres to reach the nearest drainage point.
Despite being typically used for more heavy-duty commercial applications, the Sanicom 2 proved to be the only viable solution within the project’s parameters — delivering both the required lift capacity and reliability while complying with all site and regulatory constraints.
As onsite plumber Jonny Chee noted:
“Whilst it might seem like overkill to use such a large pump for a small application like water coolers, it was really the only solution available to us within the project parameters. The Sanicom 2’s power and lifting capability made it ideal for achieving the required outcome.”
The Result
The installation successfully enabled all five water coolers to operate efficiently, ensuring compliance with Workplace Health & Safety requirements while maintaining the integrity of the building structure.
By avoiding invasive works such as concrete cutting, the solution aligned with both Brisbane Airport regulations and the builder’s specifications.
The result is a seamless, compliant and highly effective wastewater solution that supports the day-to-day operations of a major logistics facility.
